Print: Durer Dreams in Two Point Perspective
Print: Durer Dreams in Two Point Perspective
Albrecht Durer was the genius of the Northern Renaissance. This print features several of his best known works, including a self portrait and his iconic rhinocerus.
Rhinocerus story: Durer, was given a written description and rough sketch of a rhinoceros that arrived in Lisbon in 1515. He never actually saw a rhinoceros, but created the now famous woodcut. Durer ‘s depiction seems to be wearing a coat of armor. It is part fact, part fiction and pure genius. This was the first living rhinoceros in Europe since Roman times. Sadly, it died in a shipwreck in 1516 when being sent as a gift to Pope Leo X.
